On the first day of the election period for the May 14 local polls, a barangay captain was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants in the town of Tanza in Cavite on Saturday, Super Radyo dzBB reported Sunday.
Police identified the victim as Leonilo Arbonido, 56, the captain of Barangay Julugan VI.
According to Police Officer 2 Donny Montano of the Tanza Police, the victim was at his sari-sari store when the suspects came and fired shots at him.
Arbonido succumbed to three gunshot wounds.
