Tawi-tawi vice mayor killed in Zamboanga City ambush

Another vice mayor was killed in a span of five days after Vice Mayor Alrashid Mohammad Alih of Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi was shot dead on Wednesday afternoon.

Police Regional Office 9 director Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran said the vice mayor, his wife and security escort were on board their vehicle on Governor Alvarez Street when a lone gunman shot Alih.

The suspect, according to the police, "casually walked and approached the passenger side" of the vehicle.

He is the second vice mayor killed after Trece Martires, Cavite Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan was fatally shot on Saturday.

Before the vice mayors' deaths, two mayors were killed in consecutive days last week.

They are Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili on July 2 and General Tinio, Nueva Ecija Mayor Ferdinand Bote on July 3.

Halili was shot while attending the flag ceremony at the city hall Monday morning last week.

Bote was shot by motorcycle-riding killers while he was leaving a government office the following day.  —Marlly Rome Bondoc and Anna Felicia Bajo/NB, GMA News
