The Barbaza police identified the fatalities as Rosalia Agapito, 6 and Andrew Agapito, 3.  Their mother, Tessie Agapito, sustained minor injuries from the landslide that destroyed their house.

Police said neighbors helped in pulling the victims from the heap of soil covering their house and rushed them to a hospital, but the children died before they could be treated.

Widespread heavy rains from the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) enhanced by a series of weather disturbances are affecting several areas in the country, causing floods and landslides.

The landslide in Antique occurred even as Tropical Depression Josie was battering Ilocos Norte in northern Luzon overnight.

At 7 a.m. Sunday, Josie was already moving away from the Luzon landmass but it continued to enhance Habagat.

In its 8 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said that at 7 a.m. Josie was at 85 kilometers east-northeast of Basco, Batanes. —Peewee Bacuno/LBG, GMA News
