Basilan bomb contents similar to 2013 Cotabato bomb

The ingredients of the improvised explosive device used in the Basilan bombing incident, according to the results of an initial investigation, include agricultural fertilizer Chino Gaston reported on Saksi.

Gaston also said that another news source told GMA News disclosed that ammonium nitrate mixed with fuel oil was used in the explosive.

The explosive is similar to the items used in the 2013 Cotabato City bombing wherein eight individuals died and 40 were injured.

At least 10 people died when the bomb onboard a van exploded early Tuesday morning in Basilan.

A suspected bomber, a soldier, four paramilitary troopers and four civilians, including a mother and her child, were killed and seven people were wounded in the blast, an army spokesman said.

The terror group Islamic State claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing attack, which it called "a martyrdom operation".

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesman Harry Roque condemned the bombing as a "war crime", calling it "an illegal use of force, even in times of armed conflict". — BAP, GMA News
