Death toll in Naga, Cebu landslide climbs to 62

The death toll in the landslide that struck a quarrying site in Naga City, Cebu has reached 62.

Citing data from the incident command post, GMA News' Ian Cruz on Wednesday reported on Balitanghali that 18 individuals were wounded while 28 others are still missing.

Seven days since the deadly incident occurred, authorities have not yet shifted their operations to search and retrieval as they are still hoping that there are still survivors in the area.

Grid coordinates have been used by the rescue team to locate the residences of the victims, the report said.

Some 30 houses were buried in the landslide that struck the barangays of Naalad and Tinaan at around 6 in the morning of September 20.

According to Naga City Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong, the site of the deadly incident was never described as landslide-prone by experts, even following an inspection conducted by Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region 7. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
