1 dead, 18 hurt in Batangas school bus accident

One person was killed while 18 others, mostly students, were injured on Monday in a road accident near the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway in Batangas province, police said.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Batangas Police chief Senior Superintendent Edwin Quilates said the accident involved a Nissan van that was being used as a school bus.

"Biglang na-flat 'yung gulong kaya na-lost control 'yung driver," Quilates said.

A later report by dzBB's Mao dela Cruz said a student was killed in the accident that occurred along Barangay Bugtong na Pulo in Lipa City, Batangas. He clarified earlier report that the van's driver was the lone fatality.

Dela Cruz's report also said the victims were senior high school students.
