7 miners killed in landslide in Agusan del Norte

Seven miners were killed and one survived when a landslide hit their bunkhouse in Mount Manhupaw located in the mountain municipal border of Santiago and Jabonga, Agusan del Norte province.

A report by Super Radyo dzBB quoting Chief Superintendent Gilberto Cruz of the Agusan del Norte police provincial office said only four bodies have been recovered, while the remaining three were still missing.

Police identified the victims as Rene Gan-ungunIligan, Ramil Naño Iligan, Casiano Tagunsulod Iligan, Rex Penig, Tata Salasay, Jay-ay Matanog, and a certain Gang-gang, who were all residents of Surigao del Sur.

Alan Daging, a resident of Carmen, Surigao del Sur was the lone survivor in the incident. He was brought to Agusan del Norte Provincial Hospital for immediate medical attention. 

The four bodies recovered belong to Gan-ungunIligan, Ramil and Casiano Iligan and Salasay.  Retrieval efforts are ongoing to locate their missing companions.

The miners have been in the area since last week for a treasure hunting activity, the report said.—LDF, GMA News
