Barangay tanod in Cebu earns engineering degree with honors

A barangay tanod in Cebu who recently graduated with Latin honors from his civil engineering course proved that time management, perseverance, and inspiration are surefire keys in achieving one's dream.

According to a report by Alan Domingo on GMA's "24 Oras" on Thursday, the 23-year-old Janryl Tan juggled between serving Barangay Kalubihan as a public safety officer and studying at the University of Cebu.

Janryl shared that he grew up in Alubijid, Misamis Oriental. He tried to look for greener pastures and ended up working at a barangay hall in Cebu with his father.

His friends in the community described Janryl as a responsible public servant and the barangay hall served as his second home away from his roots.

The lad's strong determination also enabled him to get into college and eventually graduate as a cum laude.

The whole barangay whom he has served now shares with him the joy and success that he received.

Job offers have already started to come Janryl's way but the new graduate said he has made it a priority to first pass the board exam. —Dona Magsino/ LDF, GMA News
