Cebu city mayor questions 'checkpoints' near residence

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena has posted a video showing residents gathered at a small chapel across his house on Thursday evening.

"Just got home from Bisita Iglesia. Some people from Guadalupe have gathered in the kapilya across my house in protest of the police "checkpoint" outside my gate," Osmena said.

"The "checkpoint" that was following me decided to move to the main road (which is where they should be anyway)," he added.

The city mayor also said that he asked the people to go home, but they refused to leave.

In another post earlier in the day, Osmena showed pictures of the police personnel he saw near his residence.

"I live on a side street in Guadalupe, but instead of securing something the bus terminals, churches, or other high traffic areas, PRO-7 has decided to send 10 police to make a “checkpoint” right outside my house. The main road is 100m away. When I left earlier, they left. Now that I'm home, they're back. Ealier today, my wife had to ask permission to enter our own house."

Last year, Osmena was name by former Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II as a drug protector based on an affidavit the cousin of slain drug lord Jeffrey "Jaguar" Diaz, Reynaldo "Jumbo" Diaz.

Osmena had denied the allegation. -- BAP, GMA News
