Mild quake hits Occidental Mindoro


 


A 5.5-magnitude quake hit Rizal in Occidental Mindoro on Saturday morning, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The quake, which occurred at 9:05 a.m., is tectonic in origin. It had a depth of 12 kilometers with the epicenter located in Rizal town.

There are no expected damage, but aftershocks may occur, PHIVOLCS said.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, PHIVOLCS-Seismological Observation and Earthquake Prediction Division officer-in-charge Director Ishmael Narag said there were reported intensities in the following areas:

  • Intensity V: Rizal and San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro
  • Intensity III: Lipa City, Batangas; Malay, Nabas and Ibajay, Aklan; Libertad, Antique;
  • Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
  • Intensity II: San Nicolas, Batangas; City of Manila

PHIVOLCS said the quake's instrumental intensities—earth shaking recorded by seismic instruments—were:

  • Intensity IV: San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
  • Intensity III: Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro
  • Intensity II: Tagaytay City; Malinao, Aklan; Sebaste and Culasi, Antique; Calatagan, Batangas
  • Intensity I: Talisay, Batangas; Dolores & Mauban, Quezon; San Jose, Antique

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that according to local disaster risk reduction and management offices, Intensity III to IV were felt in Mamburao, Sablayan, Sta. Cruz, and Magsaysay in Occidental Mindoro.
