Giant clams weighing more than 40,000 kilos seized in Davao del Norte

Giant clams weighing more than 40,000 kilograms were recovered by authorities in Samal, Davao del Norte, according to a report on Unang Balita on Thursday.

The giant clams, locally known as taklobo, were found in a vacant lot at the side of a road.

Authorities said the clams were to be shipped out of the island.

There are too many clams that some may have been sourced from other areas.

A man, who may have knowledge on the clams, is already in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

It can be recalled that collecting, selling, and buying giant clams is a violation of Republic Act 10654, or the Philippine Fisheries Code. — BAP, GMA News
