Oriental Mindoro prosecutor injured in ambush


A prosecutor from Oriental Mindoro was injured following an ambush on Monday morning, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.

The DOJ identified the victim as Josephine Caranto-Olivar who was shot while entering her house around 10 a.m. in Barangay Bayanan Uno, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

According to the DOJ, Olivar sustained five gunshot wounds, two of them in the head and three in the body.

“Provincial Prosecutor Olivar had to undergo a CT scan for the wounds she sustained in the body. She will have to undergo an operation for the wounds in the body,” DOJ Undersecretary Markk Perete said in a statement.

Perete called on law enforcement authorities to investigate the incident so that those responsible may be held accountable.

“In the meantime, we ask for prayers for the safety of Provincial Prosecutor Olivar and her family,” he added.

In a separate report by Super Radyo dzBB's Mark Makalalad, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 4-B said the police are still investigating the incident. — Llanesca T. Panti and Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas/KG/RSJ, GMA News
