P34k worth of new books, school supplies sold to junk shop for P4k

Books and other school supplies bought by the provincial government of Cebu have ended up in a junk shop in Cebu City.

According to a report by Jun Veneracion in GMA's 24 Oras on Wednesday, the new books and supplies worth P34,000 were allegedly sold by a government employee to a junk shop for only P4,000.

Investigation showed that the employee worked for the Provincial General Services Office (PGSO).

"Isa sa staff ko 'yung tinutukoy. Tapos sa initial investigation, ang in-implicate na other members ay yung nasa distribution committee ng school board," PGSO officer-in-charge Bernard Calderon said.

"Tapos later on, nag-retract sila dahil siya lang daw ang mag-isang nagpa-timbang," he added.

The employee, whose identity has not been disclosed by authorities, was placed under floating status pending the investigation.

"Somebody instructed him daw. Ang sinabi raw sa kaniyang term ay linisin ito o kumbaga ay wala dapat matira. Ang inimplicate niya ay somebody sa school board na staff," Calderon said.

Authorities were able to recover the said school items.

Aside from these, school supplies that were bought in 2017 supposedly remain undistributed.
