Guevarra orders creation of investigation team for Eduardo Dizon slay

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the creation of a special investigating team which will look into the killing of Kidapawan City radio broadcaster Eduardo Dizon on Wednesday night.

Guevarra, the chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Media Violence, said that prosecutors and members of the National Bureau of the Investigation would compose the SIT just like those in cases of alleged extrajudicial killings.

"Our SITs are headed by   prosecutors in the field who assist in case build-up, and they coordinate actively with local law enforcement agents including the NBI," Guevarra said.

"For media killings, the presidential task force has an executive director, Joel Egco, who supervises all  investigations directly," he added.

Dizon was a radio commentator of Brigada News.

Police said Dizon was in his car when he was shot several times by still unidentified suspects.

Philippine National Police chief Police General Oscar Albayalde has ordered the PRO 12, led by Police Brigadier General Eliseo Rasco, to immediately look into the incident.

Meanwhile, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines said Dizon would be the 13th journalist killed under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte if he was slain due to his job as a media professional. —NB, GMA News
