Magnitude 5.5 earthquake hits Surigao del Sur


A magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred in Surigao del Sur on Saturday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The quake was recorded at 4:42 a.m.

The earthquake's epicenter was 09.32N, 126.13E - 008 km N 54° W of Cortes, Surigao del Sur.

The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 5 kilometers.

The US Geological Survey however reported the earthquake at magnitude 5.8.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. There was also no tsunami warning from the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center immediately after the quake. —with a report from Reuters/KG, GMA News
