Soldier injured in Sulu clash between troops, Abu Sayyaf

A soldier was wounded during a firefight between government troops and the Abu Sayyaf group on Wednesday afternoon in Patikul, Sulu, the military said Thursday.

According to the Armed Forces, soldiers from the 92nd Infantry Battalion clashed with about 50 Abu Sayyaf members who were under the group of Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan in Barangay Latih.

According to the military, the number of casualties on the side of the local terror group is still undetermined.

The wounded soldier, meanwhile, was rushed to the hospital.

It was on Tuesday when the brother of the Abu Sayyaf sub-leader was killed during a clash in Barangay Langhub. He was identified as Nanz Sawadjaan.

Reports obtained by the military indicate that Nanz was just waiting for orders to carry out a suicide bombing in Sulu.

"The neutralization of the volunteer suicide bomber Nanz Sawadjaan is a momentous achievement we can offer to the people of Sulu. He could have brought enormous destruction in the province if he had carried out the suicide bombing," said Colonel Ignatius Patrimonio, commander of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade. — BM, GMA News
