More than 6K passengers stranded in Bicol, Visayas due to Tisoy


The number of stranded passengers in the Bicol region and Visayas due to the effects of Typhoon Tisoy has reached more than 6,000, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday.

In its 4 a.m. advisory, the PCG recorded a total of 6,449 stranded passengers in Central Visayas, Southern Tagalog, Western Visayas, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Southern Visayas.

The PCG said the operations of a total of 1,543 rolling cargoes, 126 vessels and 63 motorbancas were temporarily suspended due to the weather disturbance.

The PCG added that 234 vessels and 124 motorbancas are taking shelter at present.

According to PAGASA, Tisoy has slightly weakened and is now over Burias Island.

The weather agency warned that strong winds and heavy rainfall would be experienced by residents in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay and Masbate.

In its latest weather update, PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 over 14 areas.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has said a total of 89,722 individuals have been preventively evacuated in Regions V, VIII, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
