DOT lauds team behind award-winning Cebu-Mactan airport terminal

The government lauded the team behind the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal 2, which recently bagged an award  at the 2019 World Architecture Festival.

"The Department of Tourism (DOT) extends its congratulations to the team behind the Mactan Cebu International Airport Terminal 2 as it reaped its latest accolade, taking the top prize in the Completed Buildings-Transport Category at the World Architecture Festival," the DOT said in a statement.

According to the DOT, the terminal's roof represents the ocean while its interior resembles a boat's hull.

The Filipino culture of hospitality is also reflected by the brightness and openness of space in the building, the DOT added.

Hong Kong-based architectural firm Integrated Design Associates conceptualized the design of the terminal, with support from the Budji+Royal and Kenneth Cobonpue.

The project was handled by Megawide Corporation and India's GMR Group, the DOT said.

"With Mactan being the second busiest international airport in the Philippines, this architecturally astounding building serves as an important gateway to the Philippines," it added.
