NDRRMC: Over 20k persons affected by Taal Volcano eruption


More than 5,000 families or over 20,000 residents of Batangas and Cahave been affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has said.

In its latest bulletin issued at 6 p.m. on Monday, the NDRRMC said 5,126 families or 21,945 persons had been affected by the eruption, which also caused heavy ashfall in areas around the volcano.

Of these numbers, the NDRRMC said 4,175 families or 18,187 individuals were staying at 76 evcuation centers.

The Office of Civil Defense, in its own bulletin issued also at 6 p.m., said there were still no casualties due to the eruption.

Three road sections were reported not passable because of the phreatic eruption.

The Talisay-Tagaytay section of the Tanauan-Talisay-Tagaytay Road was closed to traffic due to ashfall.

The Tagaytay-Taal Lake Road and the Tagytay-Talisay Road—both in Cavite—were temporarily closed also due to ashfall.

A total of 554 flights—318 domestic and 236 international—have been cancelled because of the volcanic ash from Taal Volcano.

On Sunday, a total of seven cities and municipalities experienced power interruptions. These include Amadeo and Tagaytay in Cavite; Lipa, Tanauan, Laurel, Talisay and Lemery in Batangas. —NB, GMA News
