Cavite declares state of calamity due to Taal Volcano eruption

The provincial board of Cavite has placed the province under a state of calamity due to the effects of the eruption of Taal Volcano.

Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla so announced on Wednesday afternoon after a special session approved the resolution as regards the declaration.

Cavite and Batangas are the provinces hardest hit by ashfall caused by the phreatic eruption of the volcano.

The volcano is under Alert Level 4, with the PHIVOLCS warning of a likely explosive eruption in the coming hours or days.

Areas under a state of calamity are authorized to access quick response funds or stand-by dunds for relief and recovery programs.

National disaster risk-reduction management funds may also be released to augment local funds for such efforts in the affected local government units. —NB, GMA News
