Tagaytay gov’t seeks reopening of businesses by weekend

The local government of Tagaytay said it seeks to reopen businesses in the eruption-hit city by the weekend, noting that many tourists have been coming to witness the rumbling of Taal Volcano.

The local government has informed establishments about their drive to bring back the usually booming business in the city that was interrupted by the volcano's eruption on Sunday, according to a Wednesday report on 24 Oras by Sandra Aguinaldo.

“Ang dami na rin pumupunta, nag-take ng pictures ng volcano, so I think more tourists will be coming soon. It’s safe naman na,” Mayor Agnes Tolentino said.

The Department of Tourism, however, has urged putting off the reopening of businesses for health reasons.

Authorities have begun fixing electricity lines, which have affected the water source in Tagaytay.

Some residents have also reopened their stores, while others have been busy clearing their homes of ash.

The Pink Sisters Convent, a popular landmark in the city, is likewise preparing for the expected return to normalcy of the number of tourists.

The church remained open even at the height of the heavy ash fall.

The local government and residents of Tagaytay said they hope that tourists will return to see the Taal Volcano despite its recent unrest. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
