2 alleged supporters of Maute group surrender in Lanao del Sur

Two alleged supporters of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute group surrendered to authorities in Piagapo, Lanao del Sur last Sunday, according to the military.

They were identified as 20-year-old Farhan Salik alias Orak and 38-year-old Alimoden Maunada.

The two turned themselves in and yielded a rifle to the Army's 82nd Infantry Battalion in Barangay Gacap on the heels of a previous encounter that occurred in the boundary of Piagapo and Balindong towns on January 24.

Lieutenant Colonel Rafman Altre, commander of the battalion, said that a Moro Islamic Liberation Front commander and a barangay chairman mediated to facilitate the surrender.

The two surrenderers were subjected to custodial debriefing.

Authorities continue to urge the remnants and supporters of the Maute group who laid siege on the Islamic City of Marawi in 2017 to surrender. —Dona Magsino/Merlyn Manos/LDF, GMA News
