Couples flock to Tagaytay on Valentine's Day after PHIVOLCS lowers Taal volcano alert level

Weeks after the Taal Volcano eruption, Tagaytay City on Valentine's Day came alive again as couples flocked to the area.

According to Dano Tingcungco's Friday report on State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, this was after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) lowered the volcano's alert level to two.

A number of families, married couples, and lovers were seen visiting the People's Park in Tagaytay.

Aside from celebrating Valentines' Day, one couple from Cavite even visited the park to reflect on their upcoming choices in life.

"'Pag mas malamig, siyempre mas masarap yakapin. Mas close kasi malamig, eh," Mark Dominguez said.

The couple spent three years in a mutual understanding relationship and for six years they did not get in touch with each other. After meeting again, they rekindled their romance and are now going strong.

Visitors also went to the Picnic Grove and the Sky Eye, a high Ferris wheel which can be found at the Sky Ranch.

Compared to its previous appearance, the once ashen area is now alive with color. Roads have once again become busy and people have returned to the markets.

Shop owners at the market said they did not expect the sudden surge of visitors.

"Hindi po, sir. Ang akala ko po kasi namin gawa nga po nitong nangyari sa Taal po, walang masyadong tao. Hindi rin po nila inaasahan na kahit ganyan nangyari, marami pa rin po'ng dumagsang tao para bumili po ng bulaklak," Leilani Cabigao said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BAP/KG, GMA News
