Sorsogon student dies in alleged fraternity hazing

A 23-year-old student was allegedly hazed to death in Sorsogon's Bulan town, the local police said on Monday.

According to the Sorsogon Police Provincial Office, victim Omer Despabiladeras was supposedly being initiated into the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity's Bulan chapter last Sunday.

The rites started at 10 a.m. and ended at around 4 p.m., at which point Despabiladeras collapsed.

A certain Rembrandt Panes Gerolao and Ulysis Bello Berania brought the victim to the Pantaleon Gotladera Memorial Hospital, where the victim was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Despabiladeras had hematomas all over his body, including his legs and back.

Police meanwhile took Gerolao and Berania into custody as investigators looked into Despabiladeras death. — DVM, GMA News
