2 Dipolog kids playing with rifle grenade killed in explosion

Two children aged 8 and 5 years were killed Thursday when the rifle grenade they were playing exploded, police said.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Police Lieutenant Colonel Gilzen Niño Manese, Dipolog City police chief, said the incident occurred around 9 a.m.

He said the victims' father was outside the house attending to their "ukay-ukay" business when he heard an explosion inside the children's room.

"Ang negosyo kasi nito ay ukay-ukay so kung makikita mo yung bahay magulo, maraming mga gamit. Sa investigation namin, naitago yung rifle grenade ng tatay," Manese said.

Manese said the children's grandfather was a retired policeman.

"So most probably meron silang mga savings nung una pa na hindi nila na-dispose o nai-turnover sa PNP (Philippine National Police)," he said. —KBK, GMA News
