Police rescue 56 victims of human trafficking in Zamboanga City

Zamboanga City authorities have rescued over 50 women believed to be human trafficking victims who were supposed to be brought to Malaysia.

GMA News’ Unang Balita on Wednesday said the 56 women-victims “acted strangely” at the Zamboanga City airport, prompting authorities to respond accordingly.

An initial police investigation showed that the 56 victims come from different areas in Luzon and the Visayas.

Authorities quoted the victims as saying they were recruited for high-paying jobs in Malaysia.

From the Zamboanga City airport, they were supposed to take a ship to their destination.

The recruiter evaded arrest, police said. —LBG, GMA News
