Cebu cop arrested for 'sleeping' with young female inmate –official

The chief of the Argao, Cebu police was arrested by operatives of the Philippine National Police - Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group for supposedly allowing two female detainees to stay and sleep inside his air-conditioned room at the municipal police station.

Police Colonel Ronald Lee, director of the PNP-IMEG, identified the accused cop as Police Major Ildefonso Miranda Jr., 46. During the operation, Lee said Miranda was found sleeping in a bed with a younger female detainee inside his quarter while the other female inmate was staying inside his office.

"The two female inmates are supposed to be locked up at the police jail, not sleeping in the room of the police station commander,” Lee said.

The two female inmates were suspected drug personalities and were nabbed during separate occasions, according to Lee. They were identified as one Jean Claudia De Guzman, 23 and a certain Brenda Cutillar, 40.

Lee said he had already recommended to Central Visayas police chief Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro the conduct of summary dismissal against Miranda.

The operation stemmed from reports that Miranda was allowing female detainees to sleep inside his office. Lee said there were also reports that the cop was having sexual relationship with the female inmate.

Authorities have already confiscated the PNP-issued Glock 17 caliber 9MM semi-automatic pistol of Miranda as well as his Piertro Beretta pistol with two loaded magazines.

Miranda will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, Direct Bribery and violation of Article 156 of the Revised Penal Code or the Delivery of Prisoners from Jail. —LBG, GMA News
