COVID-19 case in Bulacan a resident of San Jose Del Monte, says mayor

The Bulacan resident who has been confirmed as having contracted COVID-19 hails from San Jose Del Monte City not from Sta. Maria town as President Rodrigo Duterte announced on Monday night.

According to a report on "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho", San Jose Del Monte Mayor Arthur Robes said the 58-year-old female worked at the Greenhills Shopping Center and had been admitted to a hospital outside their city.

Information from the Department of Health indicates that she is Patient 21 and has no history of foreign travel. Contact tracing is now being conducted.

Husband and wife Patients 16 and 17 didn't have any history of foreign travel but went to the Muslim prayer hall in Greenhills, which was regularly visited Patients 5 and 6.

Patients 5 and 6 are also husband and wife.

The local officials of Sta. Maria town on Tuesday said they were surprised to learn through Duterte that someone in their town had tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Duterte told reporters in Malacañang on Monday night that four positive COVID-19 cases were recorded in Sta. Maria, San Juan City, and Quezon City.

According to Ivan Mayrina's report on "24 Oras", Sta. Maria Mayor Russel Pleyto said officials were unaware that someone in the town was confirmed to have COVID-19.

“Sa kasalukuyan po ay talaga pong wala pa kaming mga impormasyon na nakukuha at nagulat na nga lang po kami sa pahayag ng Pangulong Duterte,” Pleyto said.

Pleyto said town officials should have been informed if there was a COVID-19 case in their area so that they could isolate the patient.

The rural health unit of the town said they had three patients under investigation and one patient under monitoring, but none of these individuals had tested positive for the disease.

“Kaya nakakapagtaka po na biglang lumabas na merong positive. Kailan nila chineck 'yun, e kailangan nila kumuha ng specimen for confirmation,” rural health unit nurse Pelagio Perez said.

Stocks of face masks, alcohol, and hand sanitizers have run out in Sta. Maria due to panic caused by the announcement.

Pleyto urged his constituents to remain calm amid the looming COVID-19 threat.

“Sa ating mga kababayan, 'wag po kayong mag-panic, kasi kung wala naman po talagang direct contact sa mga nag-positive, ‘di kayo dapat matakot,” he said. —NB, GMA News
