OVER 40 LGUS IMPOSE QUARANTINES

La Union to be placed under community quarantine

The province of La Union would be placed under a community quarantine from March 16 to April 12, 2020 in an effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Executive Order No. 12 signed by Governor Francisco Emmanuel Ortega III ordered the implementation of a community quarantine, curfew, and class and work suspensions, among other precautionary measures.

During the community quarantine, movement to and from La Union would be restricted. Residents would only be allowed to leave their homes when necessary.

Tourist destinations in the province would also be closed during the said period.

Ortega also suspended classes in all levels, both public and private, during the community quarantine period.

Work in the provincial government is also suspended but a skeletal workforce will be maintained.

“Government line agencies and private establishments are encouraged to implement work suspension, if possible and as necessary, subject to the provisions of the Civil Service Commission laws and Labor Code, respectively,” Ortega added.

The Provincial Health Office was also ordered to ensure that all district hospitals would have a holding room and at least one isolation room.

The executive order would take effect at 12 a.m. on March 16. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
