A 1-year-old patient from Oriental Mindoro who initially tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has recovered from the illness, local authorities announced.
The Oriental Mindoro government said the patient was discharged on Friday after testing negative for COVID-19 twice.
The toddler was admitted to the Maria Estrella General Hospital in Calapan.
The staff of the hospital celebrated the patient’s recovery with balloons and applause.
“Ikinagulat ng ating buong lalawigan at buong bansa ang pagkakaroon ng pinakabatang COVID-positive na mula sa Oriental Mindoro, partikular sa Calapan,” Governor Humerlito Dolor said.
It was not clear when the patient tested positive for the respiratory disease.
Six other COVID-19-positive patients recovered from the illness on Friday.
The disease has claimed 152 lives and infected over 3,000 people as of Sunday afternoon.
