BOAC, MARINDUQUE -- The lone state college in the province of Marinduque on Tuesday revealed that they already distributed about 4,000 washable face mask to frontliners of the fight against the pandemic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Marinduque State College (MSC) President Merian Catajay-Mani told GMA News that right after the declaration of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in the province, they created the Task Force COVID-19 and launched its Kalinga On Wheels to help frontliners.

In addition to the washable face mask, MSC also distributed 92 disposable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to health workers and health units of the six municipalities in the province.

The task force also distributed 1,020 food packs to frontliners who are manning checkpoints around the province.

Meanwhile, MSC's Research, Development, Extension and Training Department distills ethyl alcohol from coconut sap (tuba) to help sustain the supply of alcohol in the province that will be used to make hand sanitizer. The same department also manufactures liquid hand soaps.

The school also set up an Improvised Sanitation Tent, which was also built by the MSC General Services Unit that follows the specifications of the Department of Health, for the college community and visitors.

To help Marinduqueños deal with stress, MSC also launched its Telecounseling through the Guidance and Counseling Office that provides confidential psychological support and professional help to individuals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

MSC also tapped its linkages with private organizations to gain more support in providing assistance to Marinduqueños.

Dr. Mani said the efforts were "made possible thru the selfless commitment of MSCians to serve their kababayans risking their own safety." -- BAP, GMA News
