General Santos City has reported its first case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In a Facebook post Tuesday, the local government said that the patient was among those who attended the cockfight derby in Matina Gallera, Davao City, in early March. The patient reportedly returned to General Santos before travel restrictions were placed in the city.
"Rest assured that this person is already confined in one of our private hospitals here in Gensan. We also did the necessary contact tracing with all the people he interacted with," the local government said.
The LGU also reiterated that those with recent travel histories should submit themselves to their respective health workers.
"Lying will not do us good," it said.
As of Tuesday, seven patients under investigation in the city were admitted to a hospital, four were under home quarantine, eight have been discharged, and one had died.
Meanwhile, persons under monitoring who were on home quarantine were at 20 while those who have completed home quarantine were at 1,547.
Eight people in the city have tested negative for the virus, two were "not for testing," while there were 10 pending cases.
