PCG: No sail policy still in effect in Visayas this Lenten season

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Friday reminded the public about the 'no sail policy' being implemented in the Visayas region as part of the preventive measures against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

"The PCG reminds the public that majority of the provinces in Visayas remains on lockdown, as declared by their respective local government units," the PCG said in a statement.

"For public information, the no sail policy covers all passenger vessels and private watercrafts," it added.

The statement was issued to debunk information that sea travels in Visayas, particularly in the provinces of Cebu and Bohol, have resumed this Holy Week.

Meanwhile, the agency said cargo vessels, fishing boats, tugboats, and government vessels were allowed to sail; but, the PCG added that those onboard should observe the necessary health protocols against COVID-19.

"Passengers and crew members of watercrafts navigating in Visayas are also instructed to strictly observe social distancing," the PCG said.

The PCG called on the public to follow the government's guidelines on the strict quarantine and avoid spreading unverified information amid the health crisis.

Earlier, the PCG imposed 'no sail policy' over Luzon following the enhanced community quarantine that was extended until April 30.

This covers domestic passenger vessels, motorized passenger boats, private watercrafts, and pleasure yachts from any seaport in Luzon, including Batanes, Catanduanes, and Palawan.—AOL, GMA News
