Pangasinan passes ordinance requiring use of face masks

Due to the threat from the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Pangasinan's provincial council passed an ordinance requiring the use of face masks while outside of the home.

In a Friday Facebook post, the Pangasinan provincial government explained that under Provincial Ordinance Number 235-2020, face masks were required of everyone in the province "especially when going outside of their residence, at the workplace, when entering government buildings and offices and while in public places."

The requirement would remain in place during the period of the enhanced community quarantine or while there was a continuing local or community transmission of COVID-19 within the province.

The use of cloth masks, handkerchiefs, and washable masks, as well as medical masks, would satisfy the requirement.

Any person who fails to follow the requirement would initially be made to attend a community service or awareness campaign on COVID-19, as conducted by the barangays and other local government offices, for at least three hours.

Subsequent offenses would result in the offender being strictly prohibited from leaving his or her residence during the remaining period of the enhanced community quarantine except for an emergency medical situation or when in imminent danger. — DVM, GMA News
