Sara Duterte cancels national, local celebrations in Davao City until 2021

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has ordered the cancellation of all national and city festivities and other celebrations until January 1, 2021 amid the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Under Executive Order 25, the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte said the suspension of festivities in their hometown will start Friday, April 17.

“All city and national government celebrations, parties, anniversaries, and festivities will be cancelled, while the commemoration of important dates and legal holidays should be kept short. Big celebrations are advised to be postponed until 2021,” the EO read.

The same EO also called on barangays to refrain from extravagant celebrations of their fiesta, and warned them that all founding anniversaries/araw ng barangay celebrations should be scrapped.

As for private parties, Duterte said these should be low key with no more than 25 guests.

“The city government will take legal action in cases of thoughtless extravagance in expenses for pleasure or display,” she said.

In closing, the Davao City mayor also urged the private sector to consider food distribution, feeding program, or granting of financial assistance to their employees.

As of April 16, there are 5,660 COVID-19 cases recorded in the country. Of the said number, 435 have recovered while 362 others died.—AOL, GMA News
