COVID-19 cases in Cebu capital jump to 312, with 139 new ones, mostly from city jail

The total coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections in Cebu City rose to 312 on Wednesday after the local government reported 139 new cases, majority of whom were from the Cebu City Jail.

The city government said that 123 of the new cases came from the Cebu City Jail, followed by nine cases in Labangon, three in Barrio Luz, and one case each from C. Padilla, Kasambagan, Inayawan, and the Cebu City Health Office.

They also clarified in a Facebook post that the new case recorded from their Health Office is not an employee but a patient from a cluster of clinics.

Meanwhile, a new building with a jail facility is also being constructed to serve as an isolation facility for 3,000 individuals exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology earlier said it is monitoring COVID-19 cases at the Cebu City Jail. -MDM, GMA News
