Puerto Princesa confirms first COVID-19 case

Palawan's Puerto Princesa City recorded its first confirmed case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Mayor Lucilo Bayron announced Sunday.

In an address on Facebook, Bayron said the patient was admitted to the hospital on April 14 and died on April 21.

“Nakunan siya ng swab test bago siya pumanaw at naipadala ito sa Research Institute for Tropical Medicine ngunit hindi kaagad lumabas ang resulta at kagabi lang nalaman na siya ay positibo,” he explained.

Bayron said he had ordered local authorities to conduct a contact tracing on the COVID-19 case.

Another patient showing COVID-19 symptoms died early Sunday morning, the mayor added.

Samples from the patient have already been sent for testing but results are yet to be released.

Meanwhile, the test results of 23 suspected COVID-19 cases came out negative.

As of Sunday night, Puerto Princesa had 12 suspected cases, eight of whom were admitted in hospitals, two were under home quarantine, one was in a quarantine facility, and one had died.

Bayron said the local government has already placed an order for 2,000 rapid test kits and 1,500 GeneXpert cartridges.

He also said that they recently received around 1,000 rapid test kits from House Deputy Speaker Paolo Duterte. — DVM, GMA News
