Senior citizen 67-year-old suffers heart attack after going home sans cash aid

A 69-year-old senior citizen suffered a heart attack in Cataingan, Masbate after he went to the town hall but failed to get his family's share under the government's social amelioration program.

According to Ian Cruz's report on "24 Oras", Avelino Caliwan was too disheartened when he went home without the cash assistance.

According to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD), Caliwan is indeed included in the payroll.

However, those with no dependents in their submitted form were still up for validation in accordance with the memorandum of the national government.

His daughter said Caliwan was further affected upon finding out that residents who were more well-off had already received the aid.

"Masakit sa kanya, eh. Dapat pantay-pantay daw, hindi, eh," his daughter said.

MSWD has yet to answer the allegation.

Cataingan Mayor Felipe Cabatana said that the town would pay for Caliwan's hospital bills.

"Dalhin 'yung hospital bills, dalhin 'yung reseta ng doctor. Sasagutin namin 'yung hospitalization," Cabatana said. -Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
