Pangasinan police official who attended mayor's birthday bash relieved of post

Police Captain Peter Paul Sison, chief of Sto. Tomas Police in Pangasinan, has been relieved of his post for attending the birthday celebration of the town mayor amid the prohibition on mass gathering amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A statement from the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office said an "impartial investigation" is being conducted on the incident, after video of it became viral.

In the video, Sison was seen handing over the cake to Sto. Tomas Mayor Timoteo Villar III.

“The Chief of Police [of Sto. Tomas] was immediately relieved to make way for an imperial investigation on he alleged violation of the guidelines of the ECQ, while the mayor of the said municipality together with the persons present in the said video will be subjected to thorough investigation,” it said.

“The investigators are [also] preparing the necessary documents needed in filing criminal and administrative charges against those in violation.”

Pangasinan Provincial Director Police Colonel Redrico Maranan assured the public that they will not tolerate government officials and uniformed personnel violating quarantine measures.

Aside from Simon, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Debold Sinas and his fellow policemen were also caught holding a birthday celebration for Sinas—an event that gathered around 50 people in violation of the prohibition of mass gathering amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sinas and his fellow cops are already under investigation, and the Palace has already said that charges are expected to be filed against him. --Llanesca Panti/ KBK, GMA News
