An overseas Filipino worker and four others have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Eastern Visayas, according to the Department of Health-Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development.

Patient EV-36, a 31-year-old male from Hilongos, Leyte, was a cruise ship worker who arrived in Tacloban City via plane on May 25, Monday.

He is currently asymptomatic and is confined in the isolation unit of Hilongos.

It is unclear if the patient is part of the OFWs who were sent home to their respective provinces from Metro Manila.

The regional health office said its surveillance team has coordinated with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines-Tacloban for contact tracing of  passengers who came in contact with the OFW during the flight and in the community.

"The risk of transmission of COVID-19 in the Region is there, we cannot let this virus beat us by giving up on our established health protocols," Director Minerva Molon said in a statement.

"The OFW has been in isolation since his arrival. The possibility of local transmission is very nil, as long as all concerned stakeholders will work together as a team," she added.

Meanwhile, the four other cases were from Tarangan, Samar:

        Patient EV-32 is a 12-year-old female
        Patient EV-33 is a 26-year-old male
        Patient EV-34 is a 59-year old female
Patient EV-35 is an 8-year-old male

All the cases will be brought to the community isolation units in Tarangan.—AOL, GMA News
