Lucban police Facebook page shuts down after victim-blaming post

Lucban Municipal Police Station's Facebook page was found shut down on Sunday after  the backlash from its victim-blaming post that has gone viral online.

As of Sunday morning, the page cannot be searched on the social media platform.

In the viral post, Lucban Police told girls not to wear short dresses as an anti-rape advisory. The post said, “Kayo naman mga gherlsz, 'wag kayo magsusuot ng pagkaikli-ikling damit at pag naman nabastos ay magsusumbong din sa amin. Isipin niyo rin!"

But the post was  taken down not long after.

“The order (of the PNP) was only for the post to be taken down. The police station may have opted to close their Facebook page as they face probe,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac told GMA News Online.

On Saturday, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa directed the Directorate for Police Community Relations to look into the matter.

Police Regional Office 4A director Police Brigadier General Vicente Danao, Jr. condemned the viral post of Lucban town's police station.

Directorate for Police Community Relations chief Police Brigadier General Dionardo Carlos said the person behind the viral post has been identified and is being asked for explanation.

The police said they will conduct training on gender sensitivity and awareness, as well as on social media protocol for their personnel. —LBG, GMA News
