Cebu City residents to receive gov't help under ECQ –Palace

With Cebu City back under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), its residents could expect the resumption of assistance from the government, Malacañang said Tuesday.

"Inaasahan natin na kahit papaano ay mabibigyan ng ayuda ang mga taga-Cebu [City] dahil hindi sila puwede magtrabaho muli," said presidential spokesperson Harry Roque in an interview on Unang Hirit.

Under ECQ restrictions, public transportation is banned and non-essential shops and businesses are closed. Non-essential travels by residents are also prohibited.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night announced that the national government is putting Cebu City back under ECQ due to spike in COVID-19 cases.

The increasing number of new cases and widespread community transmission in majority of barangays in the city, as well as consistent case doubling time of less than seven days and significant increase in critical care utilization against critical care capacity, were the reasons cited for bringing the provincial capital back under the ECQ.

Talisay City in Cebu was placed under modified ECQ for the same reasons.

The new quarantine classifications over the two cities will be in effect until June 30. --KBK, GMA News
