Cebu City to appeal getting placed under ECQ anew

"We will appeal to the Inter-Agency Task Force to reconsider Cebu City's quarantine status so that we can all regain our means of living," Labella said in Lei Alviz's report on "24 Oras."

, widespread community transmission in majority of barangays in the city, and consistent case doubling time of less than seven days and significant increase in critical care utilization against critical care capacity.

The Cebu Medical Society, however, said measures less stringent than might make the population more vulnerable for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection.

"Relaxing the quarantine status does not make the virus disappear. In fact, it makes the general population most vulnerable to infection and propagation of the COVID-19," the society said in a statement.

"We gently recommend to our public officials and fellow Cebuanos not to downplay the veracity of this contagion," it added.

As of June 15, the Cebu City Health Department has reported 3,613 cases, making it the city with the most COVID-19 infections in the country, with 39 fatalities. -Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
