Suspected Abu Sayyaf bomb expert nabbed in Zamboanga

A suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf Group was nabbed in Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City on Thursday evening, authorities said on Friday.

The Police Regional Office IX identified the alleged local terrorist as Kahar "Khang" Indama, supposedly the cousin of Basilan-based ASG leader Furuji Indama.

Police said the suspect is a bomb expert involved in a bombing incident in Batasan Complex, Quezon City on November 13, 2007, which killed former Basilan Representative Wahab Akbar.

Police said Indama was arrested through serving a search warrant by operatives from the Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company, Zamboanga City Police Station 3, Regional Intelligence Unit 9, and Marine Battalion Landing Team 11.

The search warrant against Indama was issued by Hon. Gregorio Dela Peña III, executive judge of the Regional Trial Court, 9th Judicial Region in Zamboanga City, for alleged violation of Republic Act 10591 or the "Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act."

Seized from the suspect were improvised explosive device components, a detonation blasting cap, a detonating cord, a bottle with assorted marbles, a bottle containing nails, firing device, and a caliber .38 revolver loaded with three ammunition.

The suspect is now under the custody of Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company for proper disposition and will be turned over to the custodial facility of the Zamboanga City Police Office.—AOL, GMA News
