Oxygen tanks, beds running out in Lapu-Lapu Hospital

The Lapu-Lapu City Hospital is faced with the lack of beds and oxygen tanks for patients amid the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to Lou-Anne Mae Rondina's report on "24 Oras," the hospital only has a 14-bed capacity for COVID-19 patients while other patients are accommodated in tents outside the hospital.

"Sa loob ng iilang linggo, patuloy na tumataas ang ating admission, lalo na ang ating mga pasyente na mayroong mga sintomas na. Inaasikaso natin sila kahit nahihirapan tayong ma-accommodate sila dahil sobra nilang dami," hospital administrator Dr. Ronald Oporto said.

Due to this, the hospital said it will establish more tents for patients.

The influx of patients with respiratory infection has also led to a need for more oxygen tanks. Where the hospital previously used 40 oxygen tanks within five days, the supply can now be depleted within one day.

"We're securing another supplier because of the demand of oxygen, mataas na, everyday," Oporto said.

The number of COVID-19 infections in Cebu City has climbed to 4,241 with 64 fatalities, leading the city to return to an enhanced community quarantine.
