Six communist rebels surrender to military in South Cotabato —WestMinCom


Six members of a communist terrorist group surrendered to the military on Thursday, June 18, in South Cotabato, the Armed Forces of the Philippines' Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) said on Saturday.

WestMinCom identified the surrenderees as Ariel Simpal y Palala, a.k.a. “Hector”, Ating Tayo Y. Kintay, a.k.a. “Lawin”, Edgardo Mahusay y Extender, a.k.a. “Greg", Ronnie  Clus y Uzon, a.k.a. “Rey”, Andoy Flang y Bangon, a.k.a. “Bruno”, and Baring Sakam y Sangkil, a.k.a. “Sadam”.

The surrender was done in Barangay Lunen in the municipality of Tupi.

 

The surrenderees also handed over their firearms to the military: one homemade 12-gauge shotgun with five pieces service ammunition and two steel magazines; one homemade shotgun; one improvised M79 grenade launcher; one homemade 12-gauge shotgun; one caliber .38 revolver with six service ammunition; and one fragmentation grenade.

WestMinCom said the six men surrendered after the AFP and the Philippine National Police conducted a lecture on President Rodrigo Duterte's Executive Order 70 and the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) in Barangays Kalkam and Lunen in Tupi.

The surrenderees were brought to Tupi Municipal Police Station for profiling and validation so they can avail of E-CLIP and other government programs.

E-CLIP beneficiaries are entitled to financial assistance, shelter, education, healthcare and legal assistance.

Joint Task Force Central Commander Major General Diosdado Carreon thanked the local government of Tupi for their assistance.

"We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the local government of Tupi led by Mayor Romeo Tamayo for donating 52 food packs for the fomer terrorists," he said.

WestMinCom Commander Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana also recognized the support from the local community in the pursuit of their mission.

"The massive support we get from the communities inspire us to remain committed in ending terrorism and winning peace in Mindanao," he said. —KG, GMA News
