70 new cases bring Cebu City's COVID-19 cases up to 4,607

Cebu City on Thursday announced 70 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), raising the total to 4,607.

The Cebu City Health Department (CHD) also said total recoveries rose to 2,321 after 79 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness, while the death toll climbed to 119 with 19 new fatalities.

The CHD said there are also 2,167 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

Cebu City still has the highest number of infections nationwide, followed by Quezon City with 3,093 cases as of Thursday morning.

Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, tasked by Malacañang to address the spike in infections in Cebu, earlier said 12 barangays in the city identified as hotspots will be placed under a strict lockdown.

The Department of Health earlier identified Cebu City and Cebu province as “emerging hotspots” of COVID-19 along with other areas in the Visayas. -NB, GMA News
