Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella on Wednesday said that the city government has enough funds to continue helping barangays as it remains under enhanced community quarantine.

"We have enough. As a matter of fact, the city council just approved the supplemental budget in the amount of P500 million and this P500 million is devoted for the purchase of 200,000 sacks of rice," Labella said during a press briefing.

Labella said the city government could still provide P1 million each for 80 barangays beginning next week. He reminded that 80% of that amount must be allotted for the purchase of food while the remaining 20% must be for protective gears.

Labella also said additional face masks were already given to the barangays.

The national government considers Cebu City a COVID-19 hot spot. On Tuesday, the city recorded 353 new infections, the highest number of new cases it reported in a single day, raising the total to 5,494.

It also recorded 169 fatalities. — BM, GMA News
