Cebu City records 150 new COVID-19 cases; total rises to 5,740

Cebu City on Thursday reported 150 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), raising the total to 5,740.

The Cebu City Health Department (CHD) also said total recoveries rose to 2,985 after 88 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness, while the death toll climbed to 193 with 13 new fatalities.

The city also has 2,562 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

The CHD said it removed six cases from the total tally of infections after finding that these were duplicates.

Cebu City still has the highest number of infections nationwide, followed by Quezon City with 3,515 cases as of Thursday morning.

The Department of Health earlier said Cebu City hospitals are nearing a critical level due to the surge of infections.

Despite this, Mayor Edgar Labella said the city has “done quite well” in handling the COVID-19 menace, citing its 52 percent recovery rate. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
