29-year-old nabbed for blackmail, sexual harassment of 11-year-old

A 29-year-old man was arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in San Rafael, Bulacan for the blackmail and sexual harassment of an 11-year-old girl through social media.

According to John Consulta’s exclusive report on “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, Harold Duran created a fake social media account posing as a young boy to attract the victim.

After earning the victim’s trust, Duran began to ask her for nude photos.

“Nakipagkaibigan ako sa kaniya. Isang araw lang po naman kami nag-chat noon,” he said.

The following day, Duran began blackmailing the victim.

“No’ng una, medyo ayaw no’ng bata pero biglang nag-threaten ‘yung tumawag na, ‘Kung ayaw mo, ikakalat ko ‘tong pinadala mo sa akin na pictures na nude,’” PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group Region IV-A chief Police Colonel Julius Suriben said.

“Lahat no’ng pinapagawang kalaswaan ni Harold ay ginawa nitong bata kung saan nire-record ng suspect ‘yung ginagawa ng bata,” he added.

After a few days, Duran asked the victim for P2,000 and even encouraged her to steal money from her parents.

The victim managed to take a screengrab of Duran’s face during one of their video calls.

Police also discovered several photos of other children on Duran’s phone.

“Sa hirap po talaga ng buhay gustong gusto ko lang po talaga umuwi, makita ‘yung mag-ina ko kasi manganganak ka. Kaya ko lang nagawa ‘yun, sana mapatawad ako,” the suspect said.

Multiple charges are set to be filed against Duran.

“Sinasabayan kasi ng mga online predators ‘yung uso na challenge-challenge sa mga kabataan,” Suriben said.

“Sana sa mga magulang, bantayan natin ang mga anak natin, i-guide natin sila, i-open natin ‘yung mind nila na malaki ‘yung risk sa paggamit ng social media,” he added. —  Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
